Prof. Mahadeo Jaiswal, Director IIM Sambalpur shared his valuable remarks on how the National Education Policy can be put into action. He stressed that the deeper meaning of research in India must shift from programme to aptitude, where it should be made a part of learning from primary education itself.
He further outlined the concept of a multi-disciplinary approach where our focus should rather be more on integrating departments than just creating them. To ensure holistic learning of the students he suggested inter-connecting subjects like science with arts and medicine with engineering, for instance, to help students make the most of this approach.
Prof. Mahadeo Jasiwal applauded the NEP’s core focus on learning. He shared “In order to shift our focus from teaching to learning we must follow the 3Ms - Method, Model, and Mode. The focus should be on creating new knowledge, information and understanding should change to application and creation. We must look at creating our own cases and follow a blended method of teaching like the Flipped Classroom method, where students, teachers and industry can work together inside the class and learn better.”
He mentioned that ultimately if we want to be a global player, we need to move out to a level that is called creation. Prof. Jasiwal also added, “We must create new accounting and measurement methods that is possible only when we shift from traditional teaching to classroom learning.”
The webinar indeed brought some insightful takeaways for ensuring smooth implementation of NEP 2020 and how one can practically put the policy into action in the years ahead.
